Automation allows us to control the vast amount of track parameters and effects in a continuous way. To explain it in the most basic way we can compare automation to a pre-programmed sound engineer that tweaks all the important sound qualities in the mix – we program when he should change the volume, how to manipulate the panning knobs in order to create a nice effect of the instrument going from one channel to another, he can theoretically even take care of gating.
