01 Installation:

To install the newest demo version of the REAPER program by Cockos the user should go to:

Windows 32-bit: http://dl.reaper.fm/4.x/reaper462-install.exe

The links above are up-to-date for the day of writing this guide. Should a new version appear the links will still be functional but the REAPER software will suggest an update during start-up. When the download finishes the software should be installed just like any other application, not forgetting to start the installation executable file with the administrator privileges active (if necessary).

If we are planning on recording or converting material to the .MP3 format we will have to install an .MP3 encoder. A suitable software for that would be LAME (freeware), which can be downloaded from many website, for example http://aegiscorp.free.fr/lame

The links have been on the website for years, so it’s safe to assume they are there to stay. However, should it disappear it can be easily found when you type „lameenc” in an internet search engine of your choice. When the download finishes the file should be copied to the REAPER folder, the default being C:\Program Files\REAPER (Windows) or to unpack the .ZIP file and drag the library within (usually called something like libmp3lame.DYLIB) to the REAPER installation folder.

It is worth mentioning that a very convenient portable installation method is also available. During the installation we can pick the “install to flash drive” option and point the installation wizard to a pen-drive or a portable drive on which it should install REAPER. Now we can launch it where and when we want by launching it directly from the device.
