The plane
The ways to notice the line:
- 3-part version - (120/50/SW or 300/50/SW - the two possibilities of noticing the same plane) Write: strike(0-360) for every plane there are two stikes, which differs in 180 degrees, angle of dip(0-90) and approximate dip direction(N, NE, E...)
- 2-part version - (210/50) - Write: dip direction(0-360) and angle of dip(0-90).
The sterographic projection of the line
A plane is projected as an arc it comes from the contact of the plane and the hemisphere.
There are the two particular case of the plane: horizontal and vertical.
The projection of the horizontal plane always is the primitive circle, while the vertical plane always produce the straight line.
To draw projection of a line:
form 3-part version - The procedure
is explained with an example: projection of the plane 172/28/E.
On the
overlay mark the point of strike 172 and rotate the net until the point
joins the great circle "0". From the east side of the primitive circle measure
the angle of dip 28 degree and mark the point. Then draw the arc containing
this point along the great circle. The arc represents the required plane.
from 2-part version - Draw projection
of the same plane, but from notice: 82/28.
Establish the point of 82
strike. Rotate the net until it's occur at the equator. Next, count the
angle of dip 28 degrees along the equator, starting from the primitive circle
- mark the point. then draw the arc containing this point along the great
circle.
